Additional Comments on Professional Service
In addition to service to the U.S.B.A. Sports Medicine Council and the International Olympic Committee, I was a consultant to the USOC Ski Project, and I have tested and counseled over 60 Olympic and professional athletes since 1975. This list includes a variety of track and field athletes, rowers, baseball, basketball and football players. Six have since won medals in Olympic competition and one was voted National League MVP.
My services as a reviewer have been used by: Nature, Journal of the American Medical Association, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Research Quarterly, Journal of Biomechanics, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Applied Biomechanics, Journal of Theoretical Biology, Journal of Sports Science, Clinical Journal Of Sport Medicine, and the Canadian Journal of Applied Sports Science. I have reviewed abstracts for several scientific meetings. I have chaired sessions at the annual meetings of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Society of Biomechanics, Canadian Society of Biomechanics, International Society of Biomechanics, Commonwealth Games Conference 86 in Glasgow, several sessions for the ISB Technical Group on Footwear Biomechanics, and the IOC World Congress on Sports Science. I have been the external examiner for the doctoral dissertations of students at the University of Calgary, Canada, and Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden. I have been a graduate committee member for students pursuing advanced degrees at the University of Tennessee, the University of Montana, Penn State University, and The University of Massachusetts.
Since 2005 I have been invited annually to act as an External Reviewer for the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC). I have reviewed Competitive Earmarked Research Grants and other RGC proposals.
